چکیده

We present the formation of a global ground-based eye-safe lidar network, the NASA Micro-Pulse Lidar Network (MPLNET) – founded in 2000. The aim of MPLNET is to acquire long-term observations of aerosol and cloud vertical profiles at unique geographic sites collocated with sunphotometers in the NASA Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET). These joint MPLNET/AERONET sites collect data on aerosol and cloud vertical structure, cloud presence, aerosol column optical depth, size distribution, single scatter albedo, and sky radiance. An overview of MPLNET is provided here, including network structure, data products, and recent results from aerosol transport studies and satellite calibration/validation.

Understanding Seasonal Variability in Thin Cirrus Clouds from Continuous Mplnet Observations at Gsfc in 2012

Optically thin cirrus cloud (optical depth < 0.3) net radiative forcing represents one of the primary uncertainties in climate feedback, as sub-visible clouds play a fundamental role in atmospheric radiation balance and climate change. A lidar is a very sensitive optical device to detect clouds with an optical depth as low as 10. In this paper we assess the daytime net radiative forcing of subv...

Spatiotemporal path-matching for comparisons between ground-based and satellite lidar measurements Correlación espacio-temporal para comparación entre medidas de lidares de superficie y satelitales

The spatiotemporal sampling differences between ground-based and satellite lidar data can contribute to significant errors for direct measurement comparisons. Improvement in sample correspondence is examined by the use of radiosonde wind velocity to vary the time average in ground-based lidar data to spatially match coincident satellite lidar measurements. Results are shown for the 26 February ...

Integrated Density of States and Wegner Estimates for Random Schrödinger Operators

We survey recent results on spectral properties of random Schrödinger operators. The focus is set on the integrated density of states (IDS). First we present a proof of the existence of a self-averaging IDS which is general enough to be applicable to random Schrödinger and Laplace-Beltrami operators on manifolds. Subsequently we study more specific models in Euclidean space, namely of alloy typ...
